Tokyo Walking

情緒・粋のお江戸を歩く、近代都市TOKYOを歩く....

神楽坂(1) Kagurazaka

この写真を見る Kagurazaka has so many small streets, in which you can see a mixture of 'old and modern',  and 'east and west'. (Actually, it is often called "small Paris" of Tokyo.)

Once you go deep inside the street, you may feel you are walking in a maze but you never want to get out of there, as you enjoy quite a mysterious, fascinating air there.

浅草(3) Asakusa

21may2006_195 This year, I was fascinated by taking photos with my new digital camera FinePix, and created a number of photo albums, which I've introduced in this website.

The most memorable photo album I've made in 2006 may be the one at ASAKUSA !    It was a hot summer festival day and I've created two different albums of this exciting downtown in Tokyo.

東京大学 University of Tokyo

2nov206_358 Besides the fact that it's the most dignified university in Japan, we can enjoy watching a number of its premier architecture and walking in the old, relaxing gardens in its campus. Some of the buildings such as Yasuda Kodo reminds me of a bitter-sweet memory of 1960's.

古河庭園 Furukawa Garden

2nov206_041 The Garden includes a western house designed by a British Condor. Interestingly, there are also a western garden with a full of roses and other flowers, and a beautiful Japanese garden. A harmony of these works quite attractively.

Asakusa SAMBA Carnival

C26august2006_273 I've never been to Brasil before, but this parade in Asakusa, Tokyo has tempted me to visit most probably the more enthusiastic and exciting Carnival in Rio de Janeiro !

根津(1) Nezu

22april2006_032_1 I've lived in Tokyo Area for over 30 years, but unfortunately I've never known Nezu until recently.

Amazingly, Nezu is just within 10 minutes subway ride from Otemachi, the business center of Tokyo. It is such a quiet town, with Nezu Shrine in the center of the town. At the end of April, you can see full of beautiful flowers there.

両国 (1) Ryogoku

14may2006_166_3 Ryogoku is another exciting old downtown in Tokyo, which is also well known for the origin of SUMO wrestling. You can see a number of SUMO wrestlers going back and forth during the tournament season.

There are in addition a number of interesting historical spots in Ryogoku, which you may see in the album below.

月島(2) Tsukishima

21_sony_002 I did mention in the below entry that Tsukishima is an old downtown in Tokyo while it reminds me of Manhattan. If you look at the photo, you may believe it.- Actually around Tsukishima, there is an amazing area of many new, extremely tall apartment houses, surrounded by The Sumida River.

月島(1) Tsukishima

01april06_032 Looks like Manhattan with rivers and skyscrapers, but not really so when you walk around this town.

Actually Tsukishima is a downtown in the east of Tokyo, with unbelievable old wooden houses. It was interesting to see a contrast of the old and the new here in this town.  Eating "Monja-yaki', which is peculiar only to this town, was also a fun.

四谷 (1) Yotsuya

My company moved to Yotsuya.

28march06_034 When some time is available at a lunch hour, I often take a walk around Yotsuya area. It is a fun to watch Sophia University, a few large hotels, and Natinal Guest House. It was so lucky that we moved to this area before the cherry blossom were in full.
